Compare And Contrast Von Trapp Family And Applewhite Family

The Von Trapp family and Applewhite family have many similarities as they have differences too. One example of a similarity the families have is that they were able to make an outsider become a part of the family, such as Maria and Jake Semple, who were both said to be troublemakers. Maria was taken into the family originally to be a governess for Captain Von Trapp’s children. The beginning of her time with the family was very rocky, but eventually she became the wife of Captain Von Trapp. As for Jake, his first thought when he arrived at Wit’s End was to leave as soon as possible. In addition to the Von Trapp and Applewhite families helping each other, other people also helped them in their endeavor. The nuns at the Abbey helped the Von Trapp family hide from the SS, along with various other friends or employees of the Applewhites helping build the theater and/or help with the production of the musical. Despite the similarities the Von Trapp and Applewhite family have, there is one difference that is extremely noticeable between them. While the Applewhite family has a mass amount of chaos with everyone doing their own thing, the Von Trapp family is very regimented and is run by Captain Von Trapp on a very strict code and manner, treating his children as military personnel after his wife had died. Since the Applewhites and Von Trapp’s have notable similarities, I believe that The Sound of Music was used as the play Randolph directed because The Sound of Music and Surviving the Applewhites have similar themes, such as change and acceptance, due to the similarities Maria and Jake
