One survivor of these attacks is Dianne DeFontes who worked on the 89th floor of the North Tower. This day started out as any other normal day for DeFontes. However, when she sat down to go to work, she soon found herself lying on the floor with a blackened face and debri all around her. DeFontes and coworkers had no idea what had happened until Pablo Ortiz, a worker for Port Authority New York and New Jersey, told them that they needed to move, and they needed to move fast. DeFontes remembers that before they left the building, she called her closest friend and told her that she knew she would make it out alive, but if she didn’t she wanted her friend to give her daughter a big kiss (“Oral History Archives”). DeFontes says that she said that in part to convince herself that she truly would make it out alive because she was scared and was uncertain as of what was to come. DeFontes was scared and uncertain of whether she would survive and by the time she made it out of the building, she couldn’t even recognize herself. This perspective shows how many reacted to the stress and how many faced death that day, but with teamwork and courage,
