Have you ever heard of the civil rights movment? If not i sugggest the novel over the movie because the better reference of the civil rights movement. For the Watsons Go to Birmingham the novel was better than the movie because of the better perspective of life the focus on family and a variety of events.
In the novel there is a better perspective of life the kids get bullied at school the parents get lots of respect. Also if u say something bad u get punished like on page (162-163) where kenny’s mom yells at byron for say to kenny I ain't sleeping with your leaky little butt again.
