Kat from the movie is a radical feminist who spends her time reading The Feminine Mystique and listening to girl power rock bands. She’s fearless and not afraid to stand up for herself. Katherine, at the beginning of the play, shares the same feeling about women. She unapologetically stands up for women, something that is unheard of in her time. Additionally. Kate pushes away Petruchio’s advances, as he calls her to him, she replies, “If I be waspish, best beware my sting” (Act 2.1, Line 210). This shuts down Petruchio’s insult, lets him know she’s not interested, and warns him to stay away. Kate is clever, quick, and has a crafty tongue. Kat is no different. At the end of the movie, when Kat recites her poem, she manages to insult Patrick, which he rightfully deserved, but also make him feel bad, and chase her to win her back. Finally, both characters, Kat and Kate, are pretty much universally hated by everyone. Kat’s counselor tells her that when people describe her, “Heinous bitch is the term used most often.
