In "To Build a Fire" the main conflict is human vs nature. The reason this shot story has human vs nature conflict is the protagonist is traveling through a windy very cold night in the Yukon trying to meet up with a group of friends. But preparing for the journey the protagonist under estimated the weather conditions and the resources that the man needed. This shows that she is fighting inside from being sad which is person vs self conflict. Another way this short story shows person vs self conflict is when at the end of the short story Louise starts feeling happy not that her husband died but now she feels that she is free and not trapped. With these mixed feelings that Louise is having she ends up having a heart attack because of person vs self conflict that kills her because of her feeling of happiness, and sadness but she dies being surprised of her husbands appearance. This last example is human vs self conflict because all through the short story Louie was battling depression and happiness which shocked her to death from her husbands
