Compare And Contrast The Lottery And The Rocking Horse Winner

"The Lottery" and "The Rocking Horse Winner" are two different pieces of ligature written. “The Lottery” and “The Rocking Horse Winner” are both short stories written by different authors. "The Lottery" was written by Shirley Jackson and "The Rocking Horse Winner" was written by D.H. Lawrence. "The Lottery was originally written in 1948 and published a couple months later. “The Rocking Horse Winner" was written in 1926 and published that same year. Though these two work of art in ligature were published in different centuries they share many points in common and also some points that are not in common. Through this paper one will see the points shared in common and the points that make these two pieces different.

Paul is the child of a mother who believes she has no luck. What Paul wants more than anything is to be considered lucky. He hears this phrase being said over and over again and he will do anything to get rid of it. He starts betting on horse with his friend and the family’s gardener Basset. They strike it big, Paul can predict the right horse almost every time. Paul lets his uncle in on the secret and they continue to win. Paul comes to his uncle with a question. He asks his uncle if he could put five thousand dollars away in the bank for his mother so that on every birthday she would receive a thousand dollars. His uncle agree and Paul becomes happy because he believes he will never be hunted by the phrase again, but the phrase continues. Paul becomes sick and his mother starts to fear and worry about him. One night she comes in to his room and finds him on the little old rocking horse rocking vigorously. He jumps up and screams Marble, Marble, and its Marble. Then he drops to the floor and goes in to a coma. Through this Basset still puts a bet on Marble and they win. Before Paul dies he looks at his mother and says am I lucky now mother? These stories have very deceiving titles. “The Lottery” is believed to be what we know as a lottery here, money. “The Rocking Horse Winner” could be believed to be a children and their
