The way the book has great colors, dramatic size in the picture to emphasize on the differences of size between the lion and the mouse. The front cover got my attention immediately when I first saw it, I loved the rich orange, brown-bronze color the lion has and when you flip to the back of the cover it has a soft background of yellow, while the mouse has dark grays with a mixture of red and brown. Also, this book has more details than most children books. Most have simple drawing that doesn’t show much detail on the whole picture that just focuses on the main character, but this book has it from cover to end. This took two pages of the book for one scene to emphasize the importance of the illustration because it showed how the lion gave the mouse a chance. This story has a great meaning for children that they can understand and may relate as well. The lion and the mouse show that everybody has the ability to help others no matter how big or how small. I remember when I was reading this book to the children at the center for story time and they were shocked the lion had let him go. They thought because the lion is so big he wouldn’t want to be friends with a mouse or he wouldn’t let him go when he could just eat him.
