Compare and contrast the cultural practices as related to family, use of social and medical services, use of alternative medicine and of Hispanic and Native Americans Elders; African American and Asian elders.

Some of the similarities between these four races are that both the Native American and the Asian seek help from within their cultures. When it comes to the caring of each of these cultures, they all seem to care for elders within their cultures. As we have read about each when it comes to caring for their elders they rely within their cultures, if needed they find outside help. A model that is successful aging must allow a person to deal and cope with disabilities, illnesses, and genetic diseases (Novak, pg. 114).
A Life Course Model of Successful Aging Elder people wanting to come into their 60’s feeling and looking like they are in their 40s can describe the Life Course Model. In order for them to be able to do this there are three things that they would need as stated in our text written by Mark Novak (year), the first is to preserve their health, the second is to do as little damage to their bodies and the third is to strengthen what they can strengthen (pg. 114). The model remains largely on the elderly person’s power. If one wants longer life expectancy when they are older, they need to start when they are younger.

Why would this knowledge be important for providers of service to minorities?

There are four challenges posed by an ethnically and racially diverse population. The first is that different health and social service needs are different for each group. The second is that diversity exists within each group; the third is that the minority groups may mix traditional medicine and modern medical treatments (Novak, 2012, pg. 194). The finally challenge that was discussed is when the person immigrates influences their quality of life.
This knowledge is important for providers of service to minorities because without this knowledge one can be giving the wrong help to the person. This information is helpful to the provider when it comes to deciding what type of services would be best and what that person needs. Without information such as this, the provider can only give general help and not tailor it to become the best for the person.
