The most ironic part of the story was when Amir finds out Hassan is his half brother, and his father kept that secret from him. “ I was learning that Baba had been a thief. And a thief of the worst kind, because the things he 'd stolen had been sacred: from me the right to know I had a brother, from Hassan his identity and from Ali his honor” (225). That quote shows Baba (Amir’s father) had stolen the right to the truth Amir should have known. The theme was redemption due to the fact that Amir never felt as he had impressed his father in anyway. Since Amir was a young boy his father would always wish he would act differently, he always wanted Amir to be athletic and to defend himself from the other boys that were bigger than him. Amir always felt like he had let his father down because he was would read books and even wrote some stories himself. When Rahim Khan told Amir his request on finding Hassan’s son Amir first hesitated and did not want to. Later he thought about it and thought that his father would be proud of him after all those years if he did that good deed. After finding Hassan’s son Amir decided to get him a visa and take him back home to the United States because he would have a better life other there. Amir felt as he had redeemed himself to his father for doing such a kind and heroic thing for finding Hassan’s son and bring him back to the United
