Hirahara Family vs Gault Family “The Chirashi Covenant” and “The Kerman Kill” are two stories that have a lot of family influence as you read along. Both of them have influence in their principal characters by their families. “The Chirashi Covenant”, a story about a Japanese-American family, and how the main character, Helen, is rebelling herself against her family members (her husband, daughter and mother-in-law). The beautiful wife of a really important man in their Japanese business world that doesn’t seem to be so happy being married with him. She thinks that she finds love in other man, but at the end she finishes regretting it. Both of these stories were about two attached families who their members were kind of dependent from another. In Naomi’s story the mother of Frank could not live without her family. If Helen wanted to move to a different place, they would have to take their grandma with them. Although, Helen didn’t like the fact of don’t moving to other place, she also was in need by her mother-in-law. When she went with Bob Burkard to “check out” some houses in sale, the mother of Frank was the one who used to care of her daughter. Even though Helen was not a really expressive and cold woman, at the end she showed how she needed of her husband. The necessity of her husband was what made her taking revenge on Bob’s crime. On the other hand, in Gault’s story, Pierre, the main character, was also dependent at the beginning of his uncle Vartan. Pierre was inspired by his uncle, so that’s why he decided to follow his profession. Pierre was also the favorite nephew of Uncle Vartan, and he used to tell him that he did not regret the fact of don’t having children because Pierre was like his son. When Pierre started to work by himself, he started working at the top of the building of his uncle. Pierre’s uncle buy the furniture for his office. Also, uncle Vartan was the one that got the first client for Pierre’s career as a private investigator. The necessity for their familiars was the similarity I noticed in these
