In other words, if you never have difficult times you cannot truly appreciate the good times. Although we share some similarities to The Givers society, we have many differences. Like our rules, for example in the giver you are assigned a job at the age of 12 or (assignment). Where our world we get to pick what age we want to get a job. that's just one example though, as there are many other differences.
In our world we can can chose and to some extend do whatever we want. We can chose who we will marry, how many kids we want and what jobs we will have. In the givers society however, its different. You cannot choose who you marry, it is assigned to you. It's almost like getting a roommate in college. Whether you like them or not, you just have to deal with them. It is the same with kids, which are also assigned to you (one boy,One girl). Also the kids aren't even really yours! And lastly jobs. You cannot pick your jobs in the giver.
