For example, the stories, share a common element when it comes to family. “House Taken Over,” has a brother and a sister who never marry because they never get around to it due to all the work that comes with maintaining a house of that caliber. Also, the house is passed on from generation to generation. Similarly, in the “Fall of the House of Usher,” there are a brother and sister who have sort of an estranged relationship and never get around to marrying. Not unlike the first story, the house is passed down from generation to generation. Fear is another theme that occurs in both “House taken Over” and “Fall of the House of Usher”. In “House Taken Over,” the siblings fear the mysterious figures and try to avoid all confrontation all together with them. On the other hand, Fall of the House of Usher’s main conflict revolves around the man fearing whether or not his sister will haunt him due to him burying her alive. In addition to the themes, both stories take place in extensive houses that carry a lot of ancestral history with them due to the fact that the houses are inherited. On top of this, both houses have supernatural forces that eventually end up kicking the characters out. To exemplify, the supernatural figures in the first story kicked the siblings out of a different part of the house until they were removed from the whole house. The second story involved a sister who haunted the house due to the brother’s horrid mistake. Ultimately, the sister comes back from the dead to get revenge on the brother and takes down the house with her, forcing the narrator out, leaving the house in
