Britain gained complete control Canada in 1759–1761,through what was called the Seven Years' War.France gave up Canada with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The next colony was the Colony of Vancouver Island it was discovered by the Hudson's Bay Company in Fort Victoria in 1843. It eventually merged with the colony of British Columbia in 1866.
