To begin, geography played a major role in both civilizations. The two were in mountainous terrains, despite both civilizations were in separate regions. For Greece, there was mountains all around in clusters while for Rome, there was the Apennines mountains which essentially bisected Italy. In addition, both civilizations had a sea or a river nearby. Greece had borders on the east by the Aegean Sea, the south by the Mediterranean Sea, and the west by the Ionian Sea. Rome wasn’t bordered by the sea as Greece was, but they were conveniently close to the sea and the had Tiber River.
