A situation when I compared three samples is when I was trying to figure out what method of melting ice would work the best. During the winter it gets very icy and slippery on my driveway and walkways. I knew that something had to be done, because the last time my mother visited she slipped and fell and hurt her arm. I was on a mission to figure out what would be the best method to melt the ice. I was not sure what would be the best method to melt the ice quickly, so I have decided to test and compare rock salt, sand, and salt. My null hypothesis is that all three will melt the ice the same, and my alternative hypothesis is that at least one of the ways to melt the ice would be different than the rest.
