Compare And Contrast Solar And Nuclear Energy

Good Essays
Both sources of power have a cost. The largest nuclear power plant in the world is Tokyo Electric Power Co's (TEPCO) or also know as the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant. The largest solar power farm in the world is the Olmedilla Photovoltaic Park, Spain. Nuclear power and solar power are both a power source. They have many similarities and differences, but solar power is is still a better source. Both Nuclear and Solar are power sources for humans, but solar power is more convenient that nuclear. There is a cost to build both nuclear power plants and solar power farms, but solar power plants cost a lot more. However, the cost of the fuel for nuclear power (uranium) is expensive while the cost of the fuel for solar power is free. Both solar power and nuclear …show more content…

The energy can be used in many ways to help us get work done and be more productive with our environment. Solar energy has many benefits for example less usage of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are a natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms. Solar energy is about as natural a source of power as it is possible to create electricity.…

First off, one benefit from using solar power is that the use of it does not change the basic energy balance of the biosphere because the solar energy converts to heat energy which is absorbed by the atmosphere. The Sun delivers 10,000 times the energy used by humans (Wright and Boorse 395). Solar facilities can become operational within months of the decision to build them unlike new nuclear and coal power plants (Wright and Boorse 400). Also, these facilities do not have to predict what the energy demand will be far into the future because it can add energy capacity as needed; allowing investors an opportunity to invest smaller and less risky amounts of money. This makes investments in solar power much more appealing due to low risk and quick rewards.…

To start with, it does not require any fuels in operation. Besides, it is not only cleaner than fossil fuel but also solar energy in that absolutely no pollutants are produced. Moreover, it is far less risky than nuclear energy. Nevertheless, someone may argue that it is again not reliable as the direction and intensity of wind are varying continuously. Furthermore, it will cause noise pollution and affect both the natural scenery and ecosystem.…
