Thomas Szasz has said, “Mental illness, of course, is not literally a 'thing ' - or physical object - and hence it can 'exist ' only in the same sort of way in which other theoretical concepts exist.” Nowadays people hear the term sociopath and psychopath and they think it is the same. It is understandable because their conducts are similar. People also think that the synonym of a psychopath and a sociopath refers to “crazy” which obviously is not. Over the years, the differences between both illnesses have been very noticeable and wider. Both terms share some common characteristics, but there are significant contradictions. People always confuse the terms and most of the time they are classified as “crazy” people. Over the years people have known how to classify each mental disorder and be more aware of them. I think people have the wrong idea that all of the psychopaths and sociopaths are serial killers; obviously some of them are like the people I mentioned in this research but most of them are just people living theirs lives a little bit uncommonly way. Both cannot empathize with anyone; share the absence of fault, both have the ability to be cold, intelligent and charming. They also tend to ignore the law, disregarding the rights of others and have a behavior, in most cases, explosive and unpredictable. Both are also unable to take the place of people. In my opinion the societal responsibility and individual responsibility should be to be aware of the qualities and flaws of sociopaths and psychopaths so people around them can take the needed precautions and they can treat them correctly. Yet, people have to understand the differences between the causes of sociopathy and psychopathy. It is thought that psychopaths are by nature (genetic), while sociopaths become so by being raised in a particular environment. Psychopathy is more related to neurological defects little product development in the area of the brain that is responsible for controlling impulses and emotions. Sociopathy, however, is rather the result of a childhood trauma and emotional and psychological abuse. I believe that parents should be aware of the behavior of their kids and family members look for uncommon attitudes and manners so they can help them understand their disorder and take the proper care for them, that way they will be able to have a better
