Throughout the decades we as viewers witnessed various family TV sitcoms evolve as generation’s change, with many managing to maintain several of the same family core values. I strongly feel that The Brady Bunch, which debuted in the 1960’s and Full House debuting in the 1990’s best illustrate a significant gap between two generations of families that share similarities amongst family values despite their difference in family structure and roles.
Both sitcoms are based in a family home setting depicting common life obstacles, struggles as well as plenty of humor that the whole family can enjoy. The Brady Bunch consist of two separate families, with one family consisting of a father and three young boys and another family consisting of a mother, three young girls and a house maid that in a sense acts as a close relative similar to a grandmother that eventually cross paths with one another, unite and become one family as a whole making the sitcom’s title relevant to the overall outline of the show. I do not consider myself more of a fan more than the other. They are two of my favorite shows to watch on any given day. Since I myself now have kids of my own, I find that I can relate so much more with many of the messages each episode provides. At times I will catch myself laughing during an episode and saying “hey, I went through the same situation” or “my kid did the same thing”. It is interesting to see how other families handle different situations differently or similar to my own. In the end I would have to say that both sitcoms have more similarities than differences from one another, with the large generation gap between both being the most significant
