Folktales and legends have been told to families for centuries. So when thinking of the classic, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, you imagine to think about the same story you were told as a child. But the recent comic version of this tale,Silver Hair and the Three Xairs, changes the perspective of how you see this classic. So, by analyzing both stories by seeing how the characters, setting, and plots are similar and different, we will still see the abnormal yet fun story we all know.
The characters for these stories are beyond different. The characters for the original tale is simple, three bears and a woman. But in the original tale, the woman is not how anyone would imagine to be . Throughout the story, the little girl we all know, is actually an old woman who has a vulgar side. The Silver Hair and the Three Xairs version is more on the futuristic side. The little girl that was once goldie locks, has been changed to the same girl but with short, choppy silver hair. In this version, you can assume that she is simply in the state of curiousness, as any child would be. The girl is also shown to have parents..The bears in the comic version has changed as well. The original story was set to be at the three bears home in a simple wooded area. The comic version, Silver Hair and the Three Xairs seems as it was set in the future. From the way the car looked to be made to how the homes were illustrated, it is completely different. The creativeness is never how you would imagine the setting of the original three bears would be. The time when both story and comic were written gives a difference for the two. When reading the comic, it gave a beyond modern day vibe like it could’ve been an episode of the Jetsons. It’s style of writing changes the way of how you will ever read this tale

The similarities aren’t clear to see in the short stories, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? and A Good Man is Hard to Find”, but if you look closely you can see multiple; one being that the main characters are both female, selfish, self-absorbed and conceited. This selfishness is shown by the grandmother; in A Good Man is Hard to Find, when she takes her cat on vacation, callously saying “because he would miss her too much and she was afraid he might brush against one of the gas burners and accidentally asphyxiate himself” (O’Connor 1097) cats are independent animals and its doubtful the cat would even know she was gone, but the reality is is that would miss the cat. Comparative to the grandmother, Connie in “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” demonstrates her selfishness by snubbing her families’ barbeque “rolling her eyes to let her mother know just what she thought of it” (Oates 2129).…

Differences in between the lines Each story a person shall come across will always differ from one to the next. Whether it is from a different point of view of how the grammar, tone, content, theme, texture etc. is used the stories are never going to be exactly the same; they will not necessarily be different either. Many stories have very similar motives to make you think, act and feel certain ways, like the comparison between N. Scott Momaday’s “The Way to Rainy Mountain” and Alice Walker’s “Beauty When the Other Dancer is the Self.” They compare and contrast perfectly.…

Would you ever think a member of the Nazi party would save over a 1,000 Jews during the holocaust? Because Thomas Keneally’s novel and Steven Spielberg’s film, Schindler’s List is the account of one such individual. Oskar Schindler was a German manufacturing tycoon in occupied Poland who decides to hire and protect his Jewish workers from certain death in labor camps. In the novel, Thomas Keneally shows Oskar Schindler’s roguish and rebellious personality by describing his manner and appearance with descriptive language, characterization, and dialogue whereas in the movie, Spielberg does this through expositions, point of view shots, and shot reverse shot. Between the two tellings of the same story, there is a common theme in the presentation: attention to detail.…

    I. Home as refuge/protection In Ode to my Mother’s Hair by Joseph Legaspi and The Road Back by Pak Chesam, home is expressed as a matter of refuge and protection. The two poems are similar in the fact that “home” is defined as a symbolic figure, which is the mother. For example, in the poem Ode to my Mother’s Hair, the comparison of the mother’s hair as “dark as cuttlefish ink,” (Legaspi 9) signifies a mother’s natural instinct when danger is sensed. This analogy provides a vivid imagery on a mother’s character in that they would defend and protect, like a cuttlefish secreting ink, when danger lurks.…

Stories are told different ways after every generation, and that goes the same for fairy tales. Throughout time the main concept never changes, only by a slight bit. At first glance, Straparola story The Pig King would have nothing to do with the modern day adaption of Beauty and the Beast. However, the concept of the story is basically the same throughout, and these similarities lead me to believe that the, oh so famous, movie Beauty and the Beast originated from this tale. The symbolism throughout each story intertwines and creates one powerful theme about beauty.…
