Shrek the movie and the short story “Beauty and the Beast” are both fairy tales very similar in ways that bring the characters closer to reality. “Beauty and the Beast” written by Mme Le Prince de Beaumont has a happily ever after fairy tale ending, whereas the movie Shrek directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson and produced by Jeffrey Katzenberg, Aron Warner and John H. Williams in 2001, is more of a not so happily ever after. The movie Shrek came from the fairy tale theme of William Steig’s book “Shrek!”. “Beauty and the Beast” is a traditional fairy tale considered to be the most symbolic fairy tale after Cinderella.
