Compare And Contrast Schiele And Koller

Decent Essays
For this painting, the two significant principles of design are emphasis and unity. Schiele created emphasis in this artwork by depicting Koller in the middle of the painting as the focal point. Not only the placement, but also the grouping and the contrast. Schiele emphasized Koller by using mostly blue and dark blue on Koller’s clothes and the sofa he sat in to make the center part as a whole group. Also the books in the back and front are around Koller which emphsized Koller as well. By the contrast, Schiele used cool colors on Koller and warm colors on the books and the rug to distinguish Dr. HugoKoller. Plus the book that in Koller’s hands is the only one opens of all the books in the painting. This is a contrast as well. Dr. HugoKoller

The artist uses an afocal emphasis because there are multiple stories going on and even the smallest details have some significance. For example, there are forbidden apples that are guarded by snake and there are women playing music and s head of a goddess at the top, and on the back each person is holding something different and not making it really clear who the hero is and his significance. The artist also uses the repetition of swirls and pillars at the top that go around the border of the vase and other back the wreath-style along the border which are used as decorative ornamentation with a simple repetitive rhythm throughout the vase. Another example, is that above the tomb there are three sets of feather-like patterns that are the same. However, the rhythm give the painting a sense of separate artistry, because there are several situations happening in the center of the vase and then when you travel farther up, it is just patterns and swirls filling in the gap so the artwork feels somewhat disconnected and…

The symbols and pictures on this page represent Liesel’s story, The Book Thief. Like a few other books, Liesel got this from Ilsa Hermann. Contrasting from her other books though, The Book Thief was Liesel’s novel she had been writing since she got it, and up to when her street (Himmel Street) is bombed during an attack. The book is retrieved by the story’s narrator Death, and returned to Liesel after she eventually passes on. Just like The Book Thief is a creative outlet that allows Liesel to mature through her words, the pictures on this page symbolize Liesel’s ways of letting out her emotions, her overall relationship with books, how they have affected her, and how she eventually finds strength in her weakness (Going from not knowing…

The object of this essay is to dicuss the role of the catholic church going to the pheriphery. A periphery can be the perimiter of a circle, as long as many other things. It also be the outside boundary or suface of a body. the catholic churches role in the pheripheris is to help us get to that external boundary, so if jesus is in the center of the circle, we cant possibly be closer to him. One man who did his best to get to the center of that circle is saint maximilian kolbe.…

I found the article about the microbiologist Matthias J. Schnell particularly interesting because it brings up an important ethical questions. “Is it ok to speed up the necessary steps to for vaccine approval when there is a high demand or funding becomes available?” “What happens when thorough testing is not done and possible side effects are not examined?” I can see how in desperate times speeding up procedures to have a vaccine on the market may be necessary, however I can also recognize the dangers of such rash options. In this article the author interviews Schnell on his work in the field of filoviruses which lead to hemorrhagic fevers.…

The highlights on all five arms create a sense of lunging and dynamic movement, Judith’s arms drives attention to the main focal point where Holofernes is struck, the maid’s contribution as an accomplice and of course Holofernes muscle fist in the maid's face demonstrates a great deal of struggle to survive. Gentileschi in a harmonious sense uses values of highlight to draw distinctions from the major center of attraction to the less focused object in the painting. The contrast to the light values on all three figures separate them from the very dark background. Universally, color in general has a symbolic meaning, the artist in this painting uses a black background to imply terror, evil, mystery, and death.…

In the first reading, Philippe Schmitter and Terry Lynn Karl argue that democracy requires rights and civil liberties for citizens beyond election time. In other words, Schmitter and Karl define democracy through a procedural concept in which they focus on minimum standards and procedures that allow countries to be considered democracies (Dickovick and Eastwood, 2016, p. 91). On the other hand, Seymour Martin Lipset is a proponent of the theory of modernization and argues that democracy is the result of economic modernization and growth. Also, Lipset uses four factors to demonstrate the positive correlation between modernization and democracy which are: income, level of industrialization, education, and urbanization (Lipset, 1959).…

I think a tragedy of a “joe schmoe” is more tragic than that of one with a higher power. A common person is one that at least I, and I am sure many other people relate to. I think whatever happens to a common Joe would resonate with me more than anything else. If someone like President Trump in a shows got Stage 2 colon cancer, I wouldn’t be as worried as if someone from a common suburbia, like Overland Park. At least with Trump, he has more than enough money to pay the hospital for treatment, he can get out of his situation more than the person two streets down.…

In the painting, Christ is illuminated by being colored in with very pale colors, but he surrounded by a myriad of colors. Each person depicted in the painting, especially those in the foreground, are each wearing clothes that have different hues, such as the Virgin is wearing blue while the Saint John is wearing red. The colors of each of their clothing are quite intense adding to the energy of the scene. There is also a mix of warm and cool tones throughout the painting, which adds the disorder of the painting. Another important aspect of the painting is the use of color in the middle ground and background.…

INITIAL REACTIONS TO THE WORK My first impression of Hans Holbein the Younger’s painting, The Ambassadors, is an amazing, captivating piece of art from the Renaissance period. I was immediately drawn to the man on the left with his powerful stance and wealthy appearance. It gave me the impression that he was a scholar and possibly royalty by his attire. The representation of the male on the right is a religious or clergy type person, I assumed this by his clothing of a dark cloak with a white collar.…

When one thinks of the decadent movement of Aestheticism that Oscar Wilde portrays in his novel Dorian Gray, one thinks of an era where beauty, luxury, and royalty flourish. However, this does not suggest that poverty wasn’t also prominent. A major problem of today’s world as it has been in the past, there’s no denying that poverty is a global dilemma that affects millions. Those unfortunate enough to suffer from poverty may experience hunger and homelessness as well. Lacking the basic necessities of life, many people turn to prostitution, addictions, or crime, feeling as though it is their only way to survive or can serve as an escape from reality.…

The painting I chose was Frank Stella’s “Flin Flon VIII”. It is an acrylic piece on canvas characterized by a mixture of curving and straight lines that interlock, vibrant colors, and an emphasis on the circle in the middle of the canvas. A huge quantity of negative space is present in the painting and the painting emits a smooth texture. The painting is one hundred and eight inches squared, making it one of the largest paintings in the San Diego Art Museum. Its size projects itself on the viewer overwhelming them with its color and size.…

Also, the mixture of warm colors on top combined with primary and secondary colors give the painting a delicate effect particularly the three green brush strokes as it adds even more mystery to the painting. Furthermore, the diagonal lines that shape the floor and the barriers of the bridge and the curved lines on the water make a combination of energy and endlessness at the same time because the side of where the scared looking person is, looks completely different from where the water, which is what perhaps reflects the degree of anxiety that the scared looking person was suffering in that particular…
