Fiery Furnace DBQ In Daniel 3, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego demonstrate that they trust in God when they did not bow down to the Idol. I think what he did to the lady that broke the law was good because he was the king and she did not listen and he made a order that was not burying the body but the girl did anyway. Also, the sister of the lady said that she was gonna take punishment with her sister because she didn’t want her sister to die and the king said she would be punished also so they both were punished. Contrast with Creon’s character to the point of these two characters have conflicting motivations. Conflicting motivations develop Creon as a tragic hero by Because he didn’t kill the women he just touched her and she had a soft spot. She also was happy because she wanted to bury her brother in the open to show respect she didn’t want nobody disrespecting her brother.…

In this period, great Muslim leaders such as Salah Al-Din (Saladin) motivated large Muslim armies using scripture, and lead a series of successful counter-attacks into the Holy Land. One example of an important battle occurred in Hattin, where a decisive Muslim victory paved the way for the reconquest of the Holy Land. However, even though the two participants in this conflict appeared to be opposing each other completely; there are still similar aspects to each of their ideas. Both sides believed that it was their God-given duty to defend their faith by fighting against the enemy, and all fighters were promised an opportunity to redeem themselves from sin if they dedicated themselves to this cause. For example, the Qu 'ran allows for physical Jihad to remove any barriers to Islamic Da 'wah (proselytization), while the Bible permits killing in terms of warfare, which can be seen when God commands King Saul to destroy Amalek, the enemy of the Israelites as seen in 1 Samuel, Verse 15.…

In the texts “Antigone” and the “Euthyphro”, there is a clear distinction between different types of justice. In Antigone, divine justice and human justice are the two main points, but divine justice is held at a higher standard. In the Euthyphro, philosophical and political justice are the two main points, but philosophical justice is held at a higher standard. The relationship between the two is that they both go against societal norms at the time period in which they occur. For example, the whole argument in Antigone stems from the death of Antigone’s brother, Polynices’; whether or not he should receive a proper burial.…

During the relative time of Odysseus and Antigone, a hero could be a man or a woman, someone who belonged to a divine ancestry, who was favored by the Gods, and showed great courage and strength in one’s actions. When reflecting upon heroes from the works we have read, the first two that came to my mind were Sophocles 's Antigone, and Homer’s Odysseus. These two characters exhibit heroic actions throughout both works, and stick to their ways by portraying perseverance and confidence. Sophocles’ Antigone is about a passionate woman who arrives in Thebes to see that both of her brothers are dead. Her brother, Polyneices, is not being granted a proper burial because the infamous leader, Kreon, has prohibited a burial for him to occur.…

What to Bring to a Battle: A Slingshot In 1 Samuel, David is the most unlikely hero because he is a child with little experience in war and because he defeats a terrifying warrior; these traits are commendable because his size and physical strength have nothing to do with his performance in battle. When David became aware of the situation, he went down to the army. When David volunteered to fight Goliath Saul responded: “Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth” (1 Samuel 17:33). Saul says this because even the strongest men of his army are afraid to fight him, and he does not believe David can do it.…

The act of civil disobedience is often associated with nonviolence and simple demonstrations, however, that connotation is insufficient. Civil disobedience is the refusal of individuals or a group, to obey particular laws as a way of forcing the government to change (Civil Disobedience); therefore there is no singular manner in which it must be conducted. In a comparison of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Antigone, two different approaches are revealed. Though Dr. King and Antigone are strikingly similar in their practice of civil disobedience to illuminate fundamental problems within society and government. Where Dr. King is notoriously eloquent and forthright in addressing the issue of unjust laws and oppression, Antigone allows her unreserved passion and sense of indignation to govern her actions, which underscore the significance of the error in upholding man’s law over that of the gods.…

In certain situations, there is no such thing as the right decision. There is one option that satisfies one side and another option that pleases a different side. Great rulers only come once in Greek lifetime. Oedipus and Creon were both good rulers for Thebes, yet at the same time were men tragic of ill created fates and downfall. Oedipus was swift with action and had courage that could last a life time, while Creon was simplistic in nature and had a good head on his shoulders. Both kings, however had character flaws of stubbornness, as one tried to change and outrun his fate, while the other could not see past his nose, unable to make the right changes at the right time. As both were unable to change their ways in time, it led to the end of their legacies, one with death, and another with a life of loneliness.…
