The Similarities And Differences Between A Walk And A Pageant Walk

Superior Essays
If a person was to sit down and watch a high fashion runway show and then watch a pageant. They probably wouldn’t believe that the walks are similar, they would only see the obvious differences between the two. While both walks are very different, they do have similarities. Each walk has four key elements to the walk. Runway and pageant walks are made up of posture, steps, facial expressions, and energy.
A key part of both a runway walk and a pageant walk is the posture. When I first learned both walks, my instructors were so particular on how my posture was. I would go through three-hour classes for both types of posture. Runway and pageant posture both require a very straight back. Also, the stomach must be tight or in other words flexing

For pageant, I have stick my chest out. this is not in an extreme way because I am required to keep my back straight. The difference from runway is that in pageants my hips and spine have to be in a straight line which means I do not push my hips forward in pageant posture. Unlike runway, I sway my hips when I walk. Swaying my hips makes my walk look more interesting for pageants.
The second key part is the steps. Both runway and pageant require types of steps that are not everyday normal steps like I’m strolling down the street. These steps pound the stage whether it’s a pageant stage or a runway. The steps have to be solid and strong steps and not at all weak.
The walks do not catch attention or maintain someone's attention if the steps are weak. People are attracted to the energy that comes from a strong walk. When I walk, I imagine my feet driving through the floor. I do this for both walks since both walks require strong steps. Furthermore, Both walks, require feet to be straight-forward. The toes can’t be pointed in or out. It has to be straight. Achieving this is more difficult than someone may

In both walks, the goal is to get the audience to look at me and to not be able to look away. Therefore, these walks have to demand attention and demand that they keep their attention on me. When a person walks into a room, everyone in the room can feel the energy that person is giving off. It's not physical but it still has a big impact. That's what both these walks strive for; the feel of the energy.
In runway, the energy is strict and intent. The model must have that type of energy radiate off to capture the audience's attention. While in pageantry that energy is upbeat, happy, but still confident. The goal for pageantry is to make people smile when I walk and feel the confidence radiate off.
Runway and pageant walk each has four main elements that combine to create each style of walk. The two walks are very analogous when it comes to their basics. However, they become very different when looking at the physical aspect and technicalities. Pageant walk is upbeat and over exaggerated while runway is opposite and strict. I have managed to successfully learn each walk and teach myself muscle memory for each. I was able to do this from their similarities, but I still enjoy projecting their

This is particularly because unlike the Edwardian pageantry which incorporated the history of a town and did not include…
