He dies. Juliet wakes up to Romeo’s dead body and takes his dagger and kills herself. After this, the prince is called ignorant for letting the family feud go on for too long, and the families settle their differences with peace. Both families go on to build golden statues for Romeo and Juliet. West Side Story is a film based off of two rivaled gangs, The Jets and The Sharks. The Jets were a white American gang and the Sharks were a Puerto Rican gang that moves to America. The gangs have a few scruffs but nothing serious. But the Jets want them gone. The Jets want to Challenge the Sharks to a rumble at the dance the next day. Riff, the leader of the Jets, goes to find the co-leader/former member of the Jets, Tony. Tony Works at Doc’s and doesn’t want anything to do with this. But Riff convinces Tony to go anyway. Here we meet Maria. Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks, brought his sister Maria to America a month before the dance. She is so excited to go. Since West Side Story is a remake, there are bound to be both similarities and differences. There are many similarities throughout this scene. Starting off, the events leading up to the deaths are very similar. Whether it be the friends and family dying or forbidden love. But the actual scene has both similarities and differences.
