Junior Research Paper: Reggie Miller VS Ray Allen
In an interview with Larry Brown, Head Coach of the ‘94 championship Pistons team, once described Reggie Miller as one of the best shooters he has ever seen and if he ever needed someone to hit a clutch shot, Reggie was the guy. At the time of this interview Reggie Miller was one of the top shooters in the league and held the record for most three pointers made. Reggie’s record was then passed by Ray Allen in 2014 which sparked one of the greatest basketball debates in history; Who was the better overall player, Reggie or Ray? The official NBA statistics show a 50% increase in three point shots attempted from the years 1995-2014. Teams used to average 10 per game but as three pointers became more common the number skyrocketed to 22 per game. This remarkably high increase of three pointers per game almost directly correlates with Ray Allen's career. This fact clearly explains why Ray beat Reggie’s three point record with ease. Teams are shooting 3s way more often nowadays and it was basically inevitable that Ray would beat Reggie's record. If Reggie played 10 years later with Ray it would have been a different story. Reggie also played during Michael Jordan’s prime. Not only did Michael Jordan play at this time but so did Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O’neal. Ray Allen is also playing with some great players but instead of playing against them he played with them. Ray Allen played alongside LeBron James, Paul Pierce, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Garnett.
