When people think of two public figures that are the most comparable, they probably do not think of Pope Francis and Macklemore. However, they are more alike than some may realize. They are both advocates for social justice, are open-minded and impactful people, and have had experiences in their lives that have influenced their teachings and creations greatly. Macklemore is a liberal rapper and activist who creates music that focuses on social injustices and inequalities amongst the world’s population. He is a popular artist with many top hits. Pope Francis is the 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church and is arguably the most popular current world leader. His main goal is to bridge the gap between people of different backgrounds. Although the contrasting viewpoints are clearly evident, the parallels between Macklemore and Pope Francis are more present than many would think.

He often challenges the strict rules of the Church which does not please other church leaders and devout Catholics. Very recently, a group of conservatives accused him of “...supporting ‘heretical positions’ on ‘marriage, the moral life and the Eucharist’”(Gallagher and Burke 1). The Pope is too progressive according to many of these conservatives. They do not believe he is leading the Church correctly. Pope Francis has persevered and is sticking to his own beliefs. Pope Francis is also unique with his views of science. He agrees with the Big Bang Theory because God created it, which therefore created the universe. An event that greatly impacted his life was when a few members of his family were killed in a car accident. This led him to have stronger beliefs about the Church and family
