Pluto made his way to the underworld and soon met with Hades on what he was going to do. Hades told him he was going to work in the fields with all of his common people who lived there. Analyse how The Great Gatsby and Browning’s poetry imaginatively portray individuals who challenge the established values of their time. The Great Gatsby through narrative text style, and Barrett Browning’s poetry through Petrarchan sonnet form, both portray individuals who not only challenge accepted values of their time but may also adhere to certain values. Despite the immensely dissimilar contexts the texts are derived from, we are able to compare challenged or accepted values within them as the share particular themes such as love and gender roles. The novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, portrays the character of Gatsby who challenges accepted values of class and money, but adheres to value of courtly love, popular in his time.…

Reading The Throne of Fire reminded me of another book I read called “The House of Hades”. It reminded me of the book called “The House of Hades because both books had similarities. The characters in “The House of Hades” had supernatural powers like being able to control the earth or having the ability to summon snow and ice in their hands. These characters are similar to characters in “The Throne of Fire” because Sadie and Carter are able to use the power of the gods and perform magic spells.…

The tale of a hero is one of the most classic of stories, told in various forms throughout the ages. Every hero, classical and modern, has different strengths, weaknesses, and challenges that they demonstrate and face along the way, exhibiting traits that prove them a hero. While there is no doubt that the central figures of the Greek myths of Perseus, Hercules, and Atalanta are all heroes, Hercules, strong both in will and physically, stands as the best example of a classic hero. Heroes are not made without challenges, some of which they face early on in their journey. Hercules and Atalanta meet their first struggle as children, with the goddess Hera sending the former “two great snakes [that] came crawling into the nursery” (Hamilton 228), which Hercules promptly kills, and the latter being “left on a wild mountainside to die of cold and hunger” (Hamilton 246) by her father.…

The Odyssey illustrates the journey of Odysseus on his homecoming after the Trojan War. Through Homer's Iliad and Odyssey has mentioned the possible existence and access of the Afterlife through rituals as expressed by Achilles in the Iliad after he received a premonition of his cousin Patroclus after he had not completed his funeral right and could not move forward to the realm of the dead. Homer’s Odyssey Book XI raises several important themes about the presentation of the Afterlife in Greek mythology during Homeric times. In Book XI readers see another step and obstacle that Odysseus must overcome to return home. In this book Homer formally introduces The Underworld, the place where the souls of people who die end up.…
