After reading “The Knight’s Tale” and “The Pardoner’s Tale,” one can come to the conclusion of which tale was better. “The Knight’s Tale” included two individuals who were friends and fell in love over a virgin named Emily. These two friends ended up having a feud that led to a battle. At this battle, one dies, and the other marries Emily. “The Pardoner’s Tale” included rioters who wanted to find and kill Death due to a friend that had passed away. On their journey to find Death, they find a man; this man was waiting for Death to kill him due to his age. When the rioters asked the old man where they may find Death, the man responded, and he told them where Death was. On their journey, they found gold. The gold corrupted their thoughts, and the tale ends with all of the rioters being dead. Now that I have given you a very quick summary of both tales, I personally find “The Pardoner’s Tale” to be the winner of the two. “The Pardoner’s Tale” is my winner due to its morals that are taught throughout. This tale teaches that greed is the root of all evil. The three rioters were very greedy individuals, who would often get drunk, and when this tale takes place, the rioters happened to be drunk. The three rioters swore that they would never harm each other, but on their journey to …show more content…
“The Knight’s Tale” tends to focus on how love affects people. The friends that were very close fell in love with the same lady and then chaos broke loose between them. The friends happened to be knights. Knights are not supposed to have relationships with females and should devote themselves to serving their countries. I personally however, did not learn a great deal of morals from “The Knight’s Tale.” It does have a good point on how love affects individuals, but I find a deeper meaning within “The Pardoner’s

The Pardoner's Tale is definitely entertaining. The very first notable entertaining aspect in The Pardoner's Tale is how he relies on the three forms of poetic irony. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight defies many conventions of traditional heroic tales. Interactions between Gawain and his protagonist the Green Knight differ substantially from the typical interactions of protagonists and antagonists in heroic tales, and the Green Knight is not simplistically evil like most antagonists in heroic tales. There is less physical conflict than in most heroic tales, and more social conflict, tests which challenge Gawain’s loyalty to his chivalric moral code. These deviations from the norms of the heroic tale are effective in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and it is an enduring tale because it had the courage to defy these conventions.…

In 1999, HBO created a short three episode television series covering some of the most memorable tales in Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. The Claymation with the addition of various other animation styled series covered such stories as, The nun's priest tale, The wife of Bath’s tale, The millers Tale and The Pardoners tale. While The Canterbury tales series gave an easily understandable view of Chaucer’s collection of tales it leaves out many important pieces of text as well as symbols that give great significance to the stories. Similar to the opening of Chaucer’s original opening the series opens with the character of Chaucer himself telling the audience a significantly shortened version of the General prologue.…

The movie “A Knight’s Tale” is loosely based on Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. Both of these art works give good insight on the social classes of the medieval era. The two artworks highlight the Knight’s social class as well as the peasant social class. The Knight is the highest rank in his respected social class, while the peasant is average in their social class. The society was set up in such a manner that people were unable to change their social standards.…

In medieval times, Chaucer wrote Canterbury Tales to express his views on social class. Most of the characters in the story have some sort of connection to the church. Chaucer divided these characters in descending order, from the most noble and honorable individuals to the ones who take advantage of the church and are not decent human beings. Chaucer was very aware of the fact that even the people who were perceived to be righteous due to being part of the church were exactly the opposite. The Pardoner in Canterbury Tales is a good example of someone who took advantage of his power of being a church member.…

Chivalry worked to idealize the knight by holding him to very high moral standards, however there were multiple, contradicting, philosophies that defined what those moral standards should be. The first was the idea that a knight was innately just; he could do no wrong and was supposed to act independently in order to uphold knightly ideals (which were often synonymous with Christian ideals). The knights that adhered to this vision of chivalry were fighting for the glory it brought and this idea was perpetuated in much of popular war literature from the time. The other philosophy…

Throughout Sir Thomas Malory’s epic romance, Le Morte D’Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table repeatedly find themselves pressured to behave in ways that are contradictory to their knightly code . The restrictive social structure of Camelot, along with the problematic nature of the Pentecostal Oath , produces a paradoxical environment where knights find themselves compromised by opposing obligations and expectations. For example, King Arthur’s finest knight, Sir Launcelot, is compelled to go incognito after struggling with the inevitable discrepancies between his chivalric duties as a Knight of the Round Table and his courtly duties as Queen Guinevere’s secret lover. The incompatibility of chivalry when paired with courtly love demands that…

Before starting his story, the Pardoner clarify how greed and drunkenness are the biggest sins. “The Pardoner’s Tale” is a great example of this, and it was easy to tell how the boys acted greedy. “The Pardoner’s Tale” had a better moral education because in “The Knight’s Tale” he did not make that clear. Furthermore, his story could possibly have several moral ideas, while “The Pardoner’s Tale” has one very strong moral lesson. The only problem with the Pardoner and his tale is how he, himself, does not follow his moral views.…
