As most people know, the book and the movie are always very different in very noticeable ways. What I mean by this is, in the books they have to say the most intriguing words to grab their readers attention. In the movies they can't just "say" the most intriguing words. They have to show them something to catch their attention, so by doing that they have to change the story line. A couple examples of this is the characters names such as Anthony Marston changed to Michael Raven, Justice Wargrave, Vera Claythorne changed to Anne Clyde, Philip Lombard changed to Hugh Lombard, Emily Brent changed to Elona Bergen, General Macarthur changed to General Mandrake, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers changed to Mr. and Mrs. Groman. Gene’s visit to Devon 15 years later is the first scene of the book. The movie started at the start of his summer session. Ever since I was young, I would prefer watching movies to reading books. It was always more exciting seeing a character come to life on the big screen rather than having to conjure one up in my head. Of course there are some exceptions, such as Walt Disney’s film Johnny Tremain, directed by Robert Stevenson. It is difficult for a director to meet an audience’s expectation when creating a book-based movie, while also inputting his own take on the story. Though it is important to add some originality to a storyline, it is equally as important to stay true to the story itself.…

In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text. One example of how the book develops the development of the story is with the setting.…

When I read the book, I believe I was a sophomore in Ms. Brown’s class and I shockingly liked the book. The reason why I say shockingly is because I never read books and when I do, I rarely like them. After we read the book we watched the movie, and I thought that it was a real disappointment.…
