Compare And Contrast Mmj Vs Mcj

Improved Essays
The Miami County Jail “MCJ” is better than the Wabash County Jail “WCJ”. The WCJ and MCJ are very much alike, but have many differences. There are many issues at the WCJ. The differences between the MCJ and WCJ are the way that they are composed structurally, how prisoners are monitored and security, and how many prisoners can be held.

The MCJ was built in 2009 and the WCJ was built in 1979. The MCJ is composed in a pod set-up, where jail officers monitor cameras and intercom systems. The WCJ is set-up in a linear system which does not allow for a pod, but allows for a control room. The WCJ is hands-on, whereas the MCJ is hands-off. Back in 1979 when the Wabash County jail was built, it was believed that it would never be completely full.

At the MCJ, security is higher due to the different range of criminals they deal with. Visitations are monitored at the MCJ through video and audio. At the WCJ, their visitations are monitored through audio and not video. Security is lower at the WCJ because it is an older jail. The MCJ is controlled by a pod control system that has cameras to monitor blind spots where jail officers might not be able to see. At both the WCJ and MCJ, jail officers are employed to maintain the inmates. At the WCJ the environment is a little more laid back than at the MCJ.

The MCJ can house 240 inmates whereas the WCJ can only house 72 inmates. The WCJ is overpopulated; they have 35 inmates in the MCJ and 84 inmates and their facility. The MCJ had 144 inmates in their jail, only 109 of those inmates were their own. The MCJ is larger than other facilities, so the other facilities pay them to house some of their inmates. Some of the inmates in both MCJ and WCJ are inmate workers or trustees, but very few inmates get those privileges.

Thus far the Miami County Jail is better than the Wabash County Jail. The Miami County Jail is newer; it has better security, and holds more inmates. The Miami County Jail has higher and better security. There is more space in the Miami County Jail. In my opinion, I believe that the Miami County Jail

Fort Bend County only has one county jail holding up to 1,500 inmates a day before they are transported to state prison or a long-term facility. (Detention Division) Both of these facilities are those that can encounter an environmental hazard at any time. Whereas Anne Arundel’s are more for long-term stay, Fort Bend has the issue of it not being a long-term facility. Even though, these jails and prisons only make up a small percentage of the population, they hold criminals who would not mix well with the general population.…

What looks to be almost like a college campus sitting on hill is Massachusetts Correctional Institution Shirley. The only thing stopping the prisoners from escaping into the woods or a getaway car waiting for them on the busy road are signs scattered around warning that if the inmates go beyond the sign then they are “Out of bonds”. Men covered in tattoos slowly walk around a green pasture, as other men tend to the prison gardens near the woods or they are playing a game of basketball by the busy road. Guards are scarcely in sight to watch over the prisoners, but unlike the two other state prisons in the distance, where barbed wire fences keep the prisoners inside of prison grounds and the guards sitting in the lookout towers closely keep their…

This was nearly a given due to the fact that the Wabash County jail was built in 1979 while the Miami County jail was built in 2009. When entering the Wabash County jail, you had to use force to push or pull the door, while Miami County’s jail had automatic sliding doors to get into the main lobby. Miami’s jail was all computer based everywhere you looked, everything was controlled, operated, and monitored using computers. While on the other hand, with Wabash is being as small as it is, the officers used keys to open every door, although there was still some electronic surveillance. The last substantial difference I noticed was the visiting.…

There are some very pronounced differences between the adult correctional system and the juvenile correctional system. Within the adult correctional system there is a greater emphasis on punishment, surveillance, arrest, and incarceration. In contrast within the juvenile correctional system the is very limited use of detention due to the fact that research has found that it only exacerbates the issues that lead to delinquent behavior. Instead the juvenile correctional system tries to divert all of the juveniles they possibly can from the juvenile justice system. There is also a greater emphasis on prevention of juvenile crime by providing interventions for at risk youth, many of these programs are not run by the court.…

The description paints a negative picture to the reader who has never had the opportunity to visit the facility.
