In the book, This interest made me want to compare and contrast the book, The Metamorphosis and the movie, The Amazing Spider Man.
The Metamorphosis is about Gregor, a traveling salesman, who wakes up and realize that he is an insect. The book never tells us what kind of insect he is so it leaves the reader hanging. Gregor is having a hard time adjusting to his new life style. His family just pushes him away, because of his new condition, they seemed to have stop caring, and he is having trouble doing his normal, everyday activities. He wasn’t anything special. No super powers or special features that suddenly appeared. He still understood what people were telling him. It was hard because no one seemed to approve of this new Gregor. Days has passed and there was not even a simple clue to how he ended up like this or if he will ever change back. The only person who really took care of him was his sister, Grete.

Metamorphosis: a Metaphor for Complete Isolation and Transformation Taking place around the turn of the twentieth century, “One morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking from anxious dreams, he discovered in bed he had been changed into a monstrous verminous bug” (Kafka 1). Gregor Samsa is isolated from society before his transformation into a bug. He worked as a traveling salesman, a job he intensely loathes, which provides no satisfaction for human social needs and close relationships. With his metamorphosis, Gregor is taken further away from humanity. He is trapped inside an insect’s body from which he cannot communicate with others, and he appears revolting, so he cannot be seen in public or even by his own family.…

Also, he could not fit through the door, and we are told that he gets serious injuries while trying to move in and out of his room. Similarly, his sister Grete and his mother had to remove some furniture in his room to create more space for him. Basically, the story of Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” is about a man transformed into a giant bug and died without the exact help of family members. In essay “Transforming Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis”, Nina Straus points out that the story of Metamorphosis is mainly about the gender role exchange between male and female, “Metamorphosis unfolds by contrasting Gregor’s maimed and dying body with the evolving, blossoming body of Grete, who take Gregor’s place as family provider and favorite”(Straus 134).
