Compare And Contrast Mesopotamia And China

China and Mesopotamia When you hear the words ancient china and Mesopotamia we think of two pretty similar civilizations that thrived in very similar ways around the same time period. However this is not totally the case, china and Mesopotamia have several very key differences that make them the unique civilizations that they were during their time. Both Mesopotamia and China rose and then fell but was it a similarity that caused this or something else. These similarities and differences spread across several different topics including Geography, religion, social classes and kingship. The similarities and differences between the two shaped them into what they were and explain their rise and their fall. Even though china and Mesopotamia share many similar things in my mind they have way more differences then similarities.
Kingship throughout Mesopotamia compared to china is much different. China had emperors whose families would rule for quite some time until things would get bad then they would inevitably replace them with new because as

In Mesopotamia they centered their whole lives around their religion “prayers and offerings to prevent floods as well as to protect good health” (Stearns text, pg.22). I believe they did so many rituals and based their civilizations around religion because of all the unpredictable flooding that occurred. China was very isolated from the rest of the world had however established their own form of religion which was polytheistic. Very similar to Mesopotamia they had many rituals which included sacrifices with elaborate ceremonies in order to please their gods (Emanoil lecture, Ancient China).
