Compare And Contrast Macbeth And Nixon

Macbeth is a fictional character who ruled as King of Scotland, while Richard Nixon was a real person who is a former President of the United States. These men come from two different time periods in history, but were once great leaders. Macbeth and President Nixon, however, decided to take part in dirty business and abuse their power. President Nixon and Macbeth both committed terrible crimes and were great leaders, but Macbeth’s crimes were much more gruesome.
The most obvious similarity between the President Nixon and Macbeth, is that both former great leaders have committed a terrible crime against their country, while in powerful positions. President Nixon was able to end the divide between our nation and reforms in welfare, health care, and civil rights all within in his first term as president. According to Whitehouse.gov, Nixon ended the divide between the nation by announcing to end all American involvement in North Vietnam, which made him favorable among the American citizens (). As well as President Nixon, Macbeth also experienced success in his occupation. Macbeth was already Thane of Cawdor and was given the position as Thane of Glamis, because of his bravery and heroicness. In addition, when the witches’ prophesized over Macbeth, they said “hail” to him, and not “fear Macbeth”. Which suggest, he was favorable among the people of Scotland. Furthermore, when Duncan was murdered, the crown went to Macbeth with no questions asked. If Macbeth had not had success as a warrior, then he most likely would have not been made king.
