When participating in an activity where students had to wear clothing containing words, 13 of the words were related to sports and music. Three of which were “Chicago Bulls,” “Michael Jordan,” and “Kanye West.” The Chicago Bulls are a popular American professional basketball team based in Chicago, Illinois, that have won 6 NBA championships since their creation in 1966. Michael Jordan is an American basketball star from New York who, from 1984 to 1998, played for the Chicago Bulls, and from his record-breaking basketball performances, has been claimed to be “God disguised as Michael Jordan.” Kanye West, on the other hand, is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer, and entrepreneur from Chicago who, as of 2017, has won 21 Grammy Awards. Other than all of their connection to Chicago, the Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan, and Kanye West share a more important trait, their widespread influence in all generations. It is their influence and popularity, like many other sports teams and artists, that draw people to purchase apparel containing their names and logos. The natural hair movement is a campaign encouraging women of African descent to keep their natural afro-textured hair, rather than wearing wigs or straightening their hair, as an attempt to expand the narrow-minded view of the fashion industry to include identifying features of African Americans, such as their unique hair texture.
