How have the composers shown that the relationship between humans and their environments is complex?
The composers of both texts have constructed and used various cinematic and language techniques to relay the themes and relationship of humans and their environments. This interconnection portrayed by the composers is dependent on the themes that the composer is successfully able to portray which the complexity of the relationship can be revealed. During the scene where Ron struggled up the hill, Ron was given new meaning in his life with his new experiences. This was shown through imagery, non-diegetic and diegetic sound. His courage to climb this hill was supported with the light, airy background music and the constant direct dialogue of Chris. The repetition of the man’s dialogue saying, “sitting on my butt” and “stubborn old man” gave the audience a sense of his confidence and courage. It also intensified his ignorance and inexperience of new experiences and adventure leading to a bond with the environment. Further in the scene, Ron uses God to relate our experiences and forgiveness to leading to relationships with humans and societal environment. Ron says, “When you forgive, you love, and when you love, God’s light shines on you.” The clouds that shift represent forgiveness and the sun that directly shines through can be related to God. This gives the audience something to relate the quote to and backs up Ron’s point of forgiving and bonding. This theme of finding new experiences relates back to the theme of imperfection. Imperfection can cause losses of dreams and goals. Ron represents this loss and the quote he says directly relates with his dreams that he was never able to accomplish.
