The Raven And I Know Why The Caged Bird Essay

In “The Raven” the author Edgar Allen Poe wrote about his dead wife that he can’t stop thinking about. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” symbolizes how the African Americans were treated and how they felt during segregation, “The Raven” is about Edgar’s dead wife Lenore. Both of the texts are similar because they both include things that don’t go away. The theme to “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” there is always something good, don’t let your anger hold you back. In the story, the free bird was happily flying around, while the caged bird was sadly sitting on the perch inside his cage. The caged bird wings were clipped, feet tied, but he still sang. In “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” the author wrote, “His wings are clipped and his feet are tied.” In “The Raven” the text says “Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling.” Both of these quotes show how they are hurt. In “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” it shows how the bird is being hurt by when is says how the birds wings are clipped and feet are tied. The bird will probably not forget how badly it is being treated. “The Raven” compares by how he said that his wife being dead was a sad fancy. Poe probably won’t be getting over his wife being dead for a while, even though it says the bird made him smile. Also, in the poem, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” the text says, “His shadow shouts on a nightmare scream.” In the poem “The Raven” the text says, “Prophet still, if bird or devil.” Both of these compare similarly because they both show how they are in a nightmare that they don’t want to believe is real. In “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” it shows how the bird is terrified of being in the cage and tortured, while in “The Raven” Poe was wondering if the bird was a devil because of how the raven was making him remember his wife,
