Many observers believe that George Wallace was the present reemergence of Huey Long, while others believe that George Wallace was a populist who made his own decisions and differed from Huey Long’s approach of handling issues. Although George Wallace incorporated similar populist tactics of being opinionated and outspoken, Wallace was not a Huey Long. Wallace was his own entity, engaging in segregation politics that hindered the progression of the civil rights movement, playing off southern sectionalism, and influencing racial anguish towards African Americans. On the other hand, the infamous Huey Long challenged economic disparities in Congress, pushed for African American rights, and fought back against elites. During the 20th century, The United States suffered from many issues, including war, economic depression, lack of equal rights, and unstable foreign relations. During this time, Franklin D. Roosevelt was president for almost twelve years, essentially four terms, from 1933-1945. Ronald Regan served two terms from 1981-1989. Franklin D. Roosevelt went into office when the country was in the midst of an economic panic, and Regan also was inaugurated into office while the US was experiencing “economic ills”, similar to the economic depression in the 30s. Martin Luther King Jr. had the same preliminary traits as Joseph Stalin. They both had the charisma to lead thousands upon thousands of devotees, as well as the persuasiveness to coax said followers to carry out the needed actions to sustain their movement. The determination, intelligence and directness were foundations upon which both men built their party, so what is the difference between the two? However there is one voice that stands out the most and that would be a man’s voice that stated, “Kids are obese for two reasons. They have voracious appetites and they don’t exercise enough.” After that statement, Dr. Mark Hyman came on to the screen to tell people that it seemed that the food industry was sending the message that it was the consumers fault that they were fat and they just needed to exercise more and eat less. Coolidge envisioned a government that was constitutionally limited and his political philosophy was rooted in the beliefs of the American founding fathers. In contrast, Roosevelt believed sharply in a progressive philosophy that limited government was obsolete. This campaign is targeted to help prevent childhood obesity in African American children. It is an effective approach that the audience, NAACP members approve of. They show how they approve of it, by applauding the 1st Lady, throughout her entire speech. The points that she made in her speech include, but are not limited to: providing parent’s information to make healthier choices for their families, bringing wholesome and more nutritious food into schools, and last but not least, finding ways to motivate children to be active.
