By the end of the novel, he finds himself in an institution of some sort. Throughout the novel, his sanity and decision making process is questioned due to his actions and rebellious behavior. Jim, seems to have it together on the outside. His struggle with inner conflict is a result of his wealthy, snobby family. They not only have him to on a persona for the outside world, but also expect him to be a perfect child, despite the hardships of moving within his life. They both seek one strong relationship and are disconnected to their own feelings. Although Holden never makes a real connection with anyone except with his teacher, he feels content with himself as a person. Jim however, makes not only a friendship, which ends in tragedy, but also a relationship. The dependent nature of these two characters is often mistaken by their seemingly independent actions. Although Holden and Jim came to different backgrounds they shared key qualities and experienced similar situations in their young lives.
