So between their academics and sports, there really is not any time in the season to have a job. The athletes put in a lot more work than most people with a paying job do. According to Marc Edelman at Forbes “The average American works 40.0 hours a week, but the average D1 football player puts in 43.3 hours a week!” That’s 3.3 hours more than an average American, and they don’t even get paid! An average athlete’s schedule can look like this : a player will wake up before classes, get a lift or conditioning session in, go to class until 3 or 4 p.m., go to practice, go to the mandatory study hall, and then finish homework or study for a test. You have to admit that is a really busy schedule. And the only time you could work during it is late at night after studying.…

Writer Marc Edelman made the point to say that college athletes are basically employees of these colleges. They put in just as much hours if not more than a full time worker. Edelman writes that “Although the NCAA claims college athletes are just students, the NCAA’s own tournament schedules require college athletes to miss classes for nationally televised games that bring in revenue.” Another good point that he brings up is that March Madness affects more than six days of classes. How can the NCAA say these kids are just students when they are requiring them to do things that brings in profit for the NCAA?…
