In the first book he had to learn how to fish and hunt and ect, by himself. Int the second book he had to learn how to do all that stuff he learned again because it was winter and you can’t fish and hunt the same in the winter like you would in the other seasons.Brian had to go through a dramatic change he went from in a plane traveling to his father’s house to the pilot dying and the plane crashing through a big pond in the middle of nowhere . In both books it says how Brian misses his love ones and how he felt about them. He changed in both books. From I hate it here too I love it here. He learned how to fit into the wilderness and treat it like he was a part of it. What sums it all up is that Brian was a hard working and young man he survived a crash that most people would have died
