Compare And Contrast Greek And Roman Creation Myth

In the Roman creation myth three of the Archetypes that appeared were the primal waters, mankind as a gift, and the union of heaven and earth. In the primal waters archetype, Jupiter, in reaction to Lycaon, has a council that decides humans are not worthy to continue "polluting the world". With that being said Jupiter decides to have Neptune and Iris flood the world and wipe out that age of man. The archetype of mankind being a gift from the gods is similar to that of the Greek myth, except that instead of Zeus creating mankind, in the Roman myth it was Prometheus who created mankind from a type of clay that was left over from the forming of the earth. With that similarity in mind, the archetype of the Heiros Gamos is similar as well, however it is nature and a nameless male deity that create the world and brings life to earth. …show more content…
For the Roman creation story there is a lot of importance of this great flood that kills everyone except for Deucalion and Pyrrha. Also in the Roman myth men and woman were created at the same time, unlike in the Greek myth when Pandora was created as a punishment for mankind. For the Greek myth it focused more on great battle between Zeus vs. Cronos and Zeus vs. the Titans. This could show the difference in the ideals of each society that one focus around a great natural disaster and the other was focused around a war of some kind. in comparing the myths the idea that the stories follow the same guidelines of chaos, into Gaia, into the gods, and than the population of earth is similar in both
