What does petty high school drama have to do with Shakespeare’s Macbeth? At first, the two may seem like polar opposites, as high school drama entails teenagers backstabbing each other with words and trivial actions and Macbeth involves literal stabbing. However, under the surface, the two are more similar than they seem. Macbeth’s attempts to gain power through terror are as futile as a high school student’s attempts to gain popularity by sabotaging his or her best friends. The constant shifts of loyalty in Macbeth are the same shifts of loyalty that happen between high school friend groups.…

Evil is a subject the world cannot avoid with its constant corruption. Almost everything in the world today seems to revolve around the concept of evil; whether it comes from music, movies, literature, and society in general. Although British literature stories mainly have the concept of good vs. evil, they shed the most light on the evil aspect of people. The stories include the motives and reasons that go with the intentions of evil that will be carried out in the story. Most of the stories we read this semester in English have a lot of evil incorporated in them.…

Macbeth is one of the most famous Shakespearean stories of all time. The play tells the tale of a troubled man becoming king in the most morbid way, who also ends up dying. There are many movie versions of this play; one in particular being Rupert Goold 's version. Goold interprets the motifs of irony in addition to how you can’t control your fate, and how everything fair is foul and foul is fair, by including both Macbeth and Macduff ironically fighting with daggers, the witches shortly being in the scene then disappearing, and how the ending scene was in the same room as the banquet scene.…

Comparison Essay – Shakespeare’s Macbeth: Macbeth’s Character at the Beginning of the Play vs. the End Sometimes situations change people for the better, and sometimes for the worst. Unfortunately, we will never understand destiny, nor the way it plays with us – one second we can be at the top of the “wheel of fortune”, another second we can be at the bottom. Destiny is the game that plays with Shakespeare’s tragic hero, Macbeth. Lord of Macbeth Even though both Jack from Lord of the Flies, and Macbeth from Macbeth have the same drive for power, the same obsession with blood, and the same guilt, there are some differences. The differences between them is that Macbeth does everything because he thinks it’s his fate and that he needs to, but Jack does it for the thrill of it. In both Macbeth, and Lord of the Flies the author is trying to show that greed kills all. In both novels the drive to be the leader results in either the death of himself, or the death of others. Both Macbeth and Jack could have lead peacefully, but their fear of not having power led to their eventual downfall.…

I think that what time a certain play is written affects how a reader may view a play, like William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” he had written this play 411 years ago in 1606, plays that are written now have a different aspect of how a play may be because William Shakespeare lived in a completely different era. A play from over 2,000 years ago would be completely different from a play from a couple centuries, because William Shakespeare made plays during the 1600s, like Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello. Plays from ancient greece 2,000 years ago are completely different because plays from ancient greece and William Shakespeare are both in different eras of time, and have different writers with different perspectives of life. Modern dramas are based on…

While every Shakespeare play claims to be the one with Shakespeare's greatest villain, scholars contend that the choice is between Iago of Othello and Lady Macbeth of Macbeth. While neither can difinitively claim the prestigious title, both are clever, manipulative, greedy villains who will do anything to further their ends and destroy their story’s protagonist. Iago’s idea of revenge is destroying Othello and causing him the very grief which Iago himself feels. Lady Macbeth’s power hungry scheme to make herself queen ends up killing everyone she loves, especially herself. Both characters fill the archetype of the Shakespearean villain, characters with enormous capabilities to do heinous crimes, know not only for their evil natures but also…
