The folktale Godfather Death and short story A&P both contain similarities and differences that are associated with a plot sequence. The climax of a story is when the story gets intense about a disaster that is about to occur, that can occasionally lead up to a moment of disaster. The godfather in Godfather Death brings his godson to the woods, to show him an herb that has a meaning of life. The godfather bringing his godson into the woods is the rising action of what is about to happen in the climax. The climax in Godfather Death is when the doctor has to decide whether or not to kill the beloved princess. Sarah Beth Durst, from Sarah’s Journal, says, “He has to be under a bit of pressure. I can’t see the king saying, ‘Oh, yes, of course my daughter must die because you see some shadowy hallucination standing on the wrong side of her bed.’” The doctor had to make a decision, but instead of thinking about what his godfather would do to him, all that comes to mind is that he will be the husband of a beautiful princess. When the falling action occurs, it leads to Death bringing his godson to the life lights of mankind. Furthermore, A&P has the rising action when Lengel comes from outside and decides to let the girls know that they are inappropriately dressed. It becomes a problem and the girls rush out while Sammy decides to quit his job in the climax of the story, leading to a falling action of him folding his apron and red bow tie.
