Renaissance Vs Dark Ages

During the Renaissance, many artists and scientists opposed the church. Renaissance means reformation, rebirth of culture, art and ideas which was all lost in the period of the Middle ages or the Dark ages. The Dark ages was a period of time where there was no king and no political, financial and social progress. It was a time when cannibalism, superstition, and famine became daily life. The word ‘Renaissance‘ comes from a french word meaning rebirth. Renaissance is the period between the 14th - 16th centuries when artists and scientists challenged and opposed dogma, authority and established their beliefs on the people of Europe.

Brunelleschi was hired by the Medici family to help rebuild the dome that they had failed to build. He intensely studied the Pantheon ( the world’s biggest dome before the Medici’s dome ) for inspiration on how to build the dome and eventually found the secret to building this dome. He rebuilt the shattered dome using his knowledge from the Pantheon and brought back the glory of the Medici family and in return, gaining their support. However unlike Galileo, Brunelleschi didn’t challenge dogma, he challenged beliefs. He challenged the belief that he wouldn’t be able to build the world's biggest dome. That he wouldn’t be able to build a dome bigger than the Pantheon. Everyone believed that what Brunelleschi had in mind wasn’t going to be possible. However by not paying heed to what people told him, Brunelleschi was challenging beliefs. The fact that he chose to not listen to what people said and that he decided to show them that he could build the dome, was a challenge to the people of Rome. He finished building the dome in
