Soon after the death of King Hamlet, Queen Gertrude and Claudius get married. This is a shock to everyone especially since Queen Gertrude remarried to her dead husband’s brother. This marriage brings pain in Hamlet’s life. It also causes Hamlet to act out with hatred against Claudius, his mother, and Ophelia. In hoping to make Hamlet feel better she told him, “ Truly, I am sorry for your father’s death” (Klein 98). After Ophelia told this to Hamlet, he hardly even acknowledged her presence. Ophelia’s caption “congratulation” is sarcastic because she is not pleased with this wedding. Queen Gertrude and Claudius both comment words appreciation towards Ophelia.
