Schoolies party falls well short of a class act written by Wendy Tuohy is an article published in the Herald Sun on November 24th of 2014. Located in the Opinion section of the newspaper Tuohy expresses her judgement of VCE students' behaviour being reckless, leading to unintended harm and attention. As a high school student myself, I 've constantly heard the claim from many of my peers that they don 't learn anything in school. Usually, though, they come from those who are failing and desperately need an excuse to make up for their own mistakes. I 've seen examples of legitimacy, though, like my freshman year Algebra teacher who preferred to pick on students who couldn 't see the board rather than find a resolution. Because of this, I can come to an understanding with the fact that some may believe that school standards should be higher. I mean, why send a developing human being to an institution for at least eighteen years of their lives and spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to keep them their only to end up with half-assed results?…

It is acceptable to conclude that the Fenger High School brawl occurred near the school, only about five to six blocks away from the actual school, due to the fact that school is a specific staging area. It is at Fenger High School where students, particularly students belonging to the Ville neighborhood and the Altgeld Garden public housing development, settled and disputed certain values that they both pertain. Fenger High School, sadly, had transformed in the most profound sense a staging area for the streets, a place where people come to present themselves, to represent where they come from, and to stay even with or to dominate their peers (94). For instance, a 17-year-old Ville resident proudly explained that they do not like them particularly…

They are controlled from a young age and taught how to follow orders, instead of thinking abstractly; in contrast to the executive elite schools. Anyon later makes a quote in her study of the executive elite school, saying “In the classroom, the children could get materials when they needed them and took what they needed from closets and from the teacher’s desk. They were in charge of the office at lunchtime” (Anyon 178).…

Perhaps the single, most common answer to the question of the purpose of school is that it is to shape young minds in preparing them for the future. For some, school is where they go learn skills and techniques useful in the work world. For others, they are just forced to go to school, to be hassled with the burdens of overwhelming assignments, which deprive them of their ever so fulfilling social lives and other salient priorities. However, for the students in Crenshaw High School, school was a sanctuary, a safe haven; the only place where they felt accepted, worthy and optimistic. School was their only outlet where they could openly express themselves, especially in their English classes.…
