One discovery I noticed was that William Forrester and J.D Salinger both became extremely isolated from society. Both wrote only one very popular book. J.D Salinger’s being The Catcher in the Rye and William Forrester’s being Forrester's Avalon Landing. We know that J.D salinger after his first book succeeded, moved to an estate in Cornish, New Hampshire, and attempted to withdraw from the world. He did not want to have anything to do with the paparazzi and media. He wanted to be left alone. The same happened with William Forrester after he wrote his first book, he too vanished from society. Nobody ever heard from him again. He moved into an apartment and kept quiet. In addition, another detailed similarity is both William Forrester and J.D Salinger keep their writing locked in a cabinet so nobody can get to it. Jamal said to William Forrester, “Yeah, and what's the reason in having a file cabinet full of writing and keeping the shit locked so nobody can read it? What is that man?” They both do this, but William Forrester or J.D Salinger did not give us a reason why. Another similarity between J.D Salinger and William Forrester is that William Forrester did block a biography of himself that Jamal’s teacher, Professor Crawford was going to publish. The same happened to J.D Salinger when he sued Ian Hamilton for trying to publish a biography of him. I believe William Forrester lives alone because he is depressed. After his brother came back from the war William hints that he had PTSD from the war. William said, “ He talked a little less and drank a little more.” William told Jamal that he made a promise to his mother that he would help his brother get through it all. But William let his brother drive home drunk one night. After his brother died, everything changed for him. He told Jamal that he believes it was his fault that his brother died. William believes that he could have stopped
