In the beginning and end of the film the director showed George in the train. This is used to create a circular plot structure, this leaves the person watching the movie questioning themselves what will happen next. This does not give closure to anybody, and therefore it encourages people to think about what will happen in the future, and ask questions. The music in the film also create interest and dramatic scenes in the film. For example, in the beginning of the movie, dramatic and serious music was played to show the tone of the movie. Furthermore, when Candy allowed Curley to shoot his dog there was a long silence. The dog was still making sounds, until the gun shot, then the dog’s sounds seized. From the use of no sound Of Mice and Men creates dramatic moments. In addition, camera angles are used in the film to try to exaggerate the size of actors. When Lennie is choking Curley’s wife the director of the film decided to use a low angle. This allowed for Lennie to appear much larger than he actually is. However, all of these techniques are not up-to-date with our current film techniques today. The worst scene from the film was in the falling action, when Lennie was killed. The book portrayed it as a peaceful and nonviolent. At the time of Lennie’s death in the film it has a peaceful tone full of serenity. However, the movie showed George hastily pulling out his revolver and shooting Lennie in the back of his head while he was screaming, Fatta of the Land, and The Rabbits! The best scene in the entire movie was when Lennie saw the light and met Crooks. This is because it really showed the social differences during this time. In this scene, Crooks was first unaccepting of Lennie. However, Lennie continued to suggest that he wants to stay, and talk. He continued to tell him to get out of his ‘horse-pen’. The actor of Crooks also showed us the confusion when somebody actually treated him respectfully for the first time, he showed this through his bi-polar like attitude, from being hostile to caring.
