He spent a lot of time having Cassie explain fully explain to the reader her current situation and the first 4 waves. Reading the book after watching the movie made the beginning seem so much longer, but well more explained. “The 1st Wave was over in seconds. The 2nd Wave lasted a little longer. About a day. The 3rd Wave? That took a little longer-twelve weeks. Twelve weeks to kill” (Yancey 45). Cassie talks about how much time it took the Others to kill about seven billion people. She explained all three waves in great detail and how each affected her personally. When Cassie was shot and under the truck, there is a lot more detail in the book.
