Many individuals are influenced by different morals and values that they choose to live by or follow. The story of Beowulf is no different, Beowulf is a man who battled great beasts while facing his personal demons. Beowulf’s story has been told throughout the ages and over time the story has slowly changed. Beowulf is about a badass Germanic Hero who travels to slay different monsters in hopes of gaining the respect, honor and glory from others. His glory is so widely known that the impact of Beowulf’s story is told to this day. In the Beowulf poem and movie, the similarities and differences shown in the Roles of Women, the character Beowulf and the character Grendel reveals values of the societies in both societies today and back then. Beowulf remains the brave and honorable man that he is throughout both versions of the story; however, throughout scenes in the movie Beowulf shows signs of weakness. For example, Beowulf is a well respected and loved character in both stories, people look up to him as a hero, trust in his words and follow him as a leader. This love is shown through the Anglo Saxon belief of comitatus where Beowulf’s men follow him fearlessly into battle, because they love their king. In the poem Beowulf is portrayed as perfect, and almost represented as sort of a God. However, throughout the movie Beowulf shows his weakness for women. When tasked with slaying Grendel’s Mother in the poem, Beowulf does so without hesitation whereas in the movie he travels to slay her then ends up getting seduced by her per conceiving the Dragon. The second instance in the movie where we see Beowulf’s softer side is the scene before he ventures to slay that dragon and reveals to Weltheow of his true love for her, something we will never see in the
